Using the bartering system, visitors to the store on Nassau Street can trade or donate. But they don't have to. Stuff given away has included t-shirts, sneakers, a video camera and a pair of blue drop earrings.
Thirty-five-year-old customer Peter Tambini told the New York Post, "It feels like shoplifting with permission."
